Richard Gay

Executive Vice President, Strategy and Operations

Richard Gay is Executive Vice President, Strategy and Operations for BET Networks, a unit of Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIA, VIAB) and the leading provider of entertainment for the African-American audience and consumers of Black culture globally. He is responsible for spearheading BET Networks strategic and long-range planning processes, driving day-to-day initiatives with other Viacom groups, evaluating and establishing external partnerships, managing business operations and leading the BET Experience at L.A. LIVE.

Prior to joining BET Networks, Mr. Gay was Executive Vice President, Strategy and Operations for the Music Division of Viacom, Inc. He sat on the senior management team for VH1 and helped drive the day-to-day activities at the network, while also driving strategic initiatives across Viacom’s Music Division. Mr. Gay worked within each brand (MTV, VH1, CMT, Logo and their sub-networks and digital properties), with centralized Viacom groups (Ad Sales, Content, Distribution and Marketing, BALA, and Finance), and with outside partners to help the Music Division and the individual brands achieve their strategic, operational and financial goals. Specifically, Mr. Gay’s responsibilities included driving the strategic and long-range planning processes, evaluating and establishing external partnerships, contributing to brand-level mergers and acquisitions and business development assessments, identifying and leading ancillary business operations for the Group and driving select operational initiatives across the business.

Prior to joining Viacom, Mr. Gay was a Partner at Booz Allen Hamilton, working in the firm’s Global Media and Entertainment Practice. Mr. Gay worked across media and entertainment sectors and in a variety of media-related industries. In 2000, Mr. Gay was awarded Booz Allen’s Professional Excellence Award, the firm’s highest award for professional achievement.

Mr. Gay received his B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and earned his M.B.A. from Stanford University. While at Stanford, he also received his Public Management Certification by completing an academic & expansive-based program spanning public and nonprofit management, social and environmental entrepreneurship, international development, environmental sustainability, and corporate social responsibility.

A Chicago native, Mr. Gay is very active in the community. He has led several pro bono initiatives, including efforts for the Chicago Urban League, the Museum of Television and Radio, and the Studio Museum of Harlem. Mr. Gay is currently a member of the Annenberg Center Board of Overseers at the University of Pennsylvania and is a Trustee of the New York Urban League, The Jack and Jill Foundation, the New York Advisory Board of The Posse Foundation and The Westchester Clubmen.
